Solano County, typically described as the area between Fairfield and Vallejo, features a surprisingly lively social scene. There are currently several ongoing open mics hosted throughout the county. Here’s a rundown of some of the best places in Solano County to hear live underground music and/or creative spoken word performances:
If you find yourself in Benicia on a Saturday, go to the First Street Cafe for a monthly musical Open Mic where people of all ages are welcome. Sign up at 7 pm. Performances run from 7:30 pm to 11 pm. Soloists get 15 minutes. Duos get 20 minutes. Trios get 30 minutes. For further information, call 707-745-1400.
On Wednesday nights in Vallejo, there’s a musical Open Mic in the Townhouse, located at the corner of Georgia and Marin. Each performer is allowed to play two or three songs. This show runs from 8 pm until midnight. Call 707-553-9109 for specifics.
Also, visit the Solano County Library in Suisun City for an open mic night on every third Thursday of the month from 7 pm to 8:30 pm. Enjoy the literary meanderings of talented local teen poets. Suisun City is located just south of Fairfield, and features an Amtrak station for your transportational convenience.
